Packet #59 - King Gold Standard Vintage Cheddar Cheese and Spring Onion

The bag is gold. The brand is King. And the name is enough to get a crisp lover in the tizziest tizzy a crisp fan could ever tizzle - Gold Standard Vintage Cheddar Cheese and Spring Onion. A far way from the humble Cheese and Onion flavour in a lovely red bag, innit?

It's quite the statement to make, and rarely does a crisp induce such excitement before the bag is opened. So enough razzle dazzle and fancy bags, crisps are what's important here not bags. Although a blog about bags might have an audience.

The crisps! One of the first things you'll notice is the colour, very bright, in fact the crisps are golden, which might of given rise to the name. And with the texture you do get that heavy texture that you'd associate with the premium crisps that you might purchase in a up market off-licence. But taste is what makes a crisp is it not? And these lads are full of it, bouncy cheddar cheese (from Wexford of all places) and a nice onion balance give you a sense that these crisps mean some serious business. But are they better then the regular King C&O (cheese and onion) I'm going to say no. BUT! It would take an amazing crisp to trump such an icon of the crisp aisle and these King's come fairly close.

Fair play King, keep up the work.

Mark.

  1. For me texture is as important as taste. FYI. Your friend, Louise.
